Trekking Fitness and health issues

Good health makes the trekking adventurous. Strength and endurance are what you will need. We(especially me) who stay in the city(Kolkata) where pollution is at its peak, need extra preparation to hold on ourselves energetic till the last moment of the journey. And it is neither so easy nor so hard. A couple of exercises will help as it did for me. Don't worry it is not many.

As we are going on a mountain and we have to walk and walk, up and down of the slop, so we will be doing cardio only that's all.

1. Running:-   Run how much you can at a slow pace. This is the best and most important. Focus on covering the distance, not the speed. Try to complete 4-5 km a day. Better if done for 2 months in the morning. I run daily so it was easy for me.

2. Hill Sprint:- This is an important exercise to strengthen the thigh muscles and make you adaptable to ups and downs on the trek. If you don't know about it, a lot of videos are available on the youtube. you can see this(I saw this). you can also use a staircase for the purpose.

3. Pushups:- Do few pushups and pull-ups if you still can. This will increase your shoulder strength as you will need to carry a load at high altitude.

Congrats that was all, is pretty easy and simple. Congrats, now you are ready to go.

Next Important to take care about is the food. Actually what we eat today will affect us tomorrow. So, it is better to eat fewer junks(Better NO). Avoid smoking if you do. The people staying in the mountains have more haemoglobin content than us so we need to have them at its full potential so keep it free from carbon dioxide and carbon monoxide.
"Fitness is like a relationship. You can’t cheat and expect it to work."
And the last thing is to be aware of the high altitude sickness. Until Dzongri it is ok. you won't feel much but can have a headache. Do carry few medician and first aid kit. I hope you may not need it.
Feeling dehydrated is very normal so have ORS and water bottle. Headache is very normal due to the change in pressure. If you want to know more about High Altitude Sickness. Visit here(from google search).

"Climbing a mountain represents a chance to be briefly free oneself of the small concerns of our common lives, to strip off nonessentials, to come down to the core of life itself. Food, shelter, and friends - these are the essentials, these plus faiths and purpose and a deep and unrelenting determination."
